PEOPLE FIRST STORIES

Efa Huckaby

Husband, Father, and Principal

Efa Huckaby joined our PEOPLE FIRST Cohort in fall 2022 as the new principal of Liberty High School in Brentwood, CA. Already a strong leader, Efa recognized the challenge of balancing his family life while building trust with his new staff of over 300—a responsibility that felt heavy.

After completing the PEOPLE FIRST Administrator Cohort, Efa began integrating this mindset into both his personal and professional life. He established healthy rhythms to be fully present with his wife and children after school and fostered high levels of trust with his staff through initiatives like MEET THE LIONS, ongoing team community-building, and empowering every individual to recognize their vital role in Liberty’s culture.

In recognition of his leadership, Efa was named the 2024 California Secondary School Principal of the Year.

Michelle Cry

Wife, Mother, and Superintendent

Michelle Cry joined our PEOPLE FIRST Cohort feeling defeated. She loved her team and was dedicated to growing as a leader, yet she constantly battled the feeling of not being good enough.

Through attending our retreat, working closely with one of our coaches, and staying connected with the PEOPLE FIRST community, Michelle made a bold decision to transition to a new role as Superintendent of Central Regional School District in New Jersey.

By prioritizing her mindset and embracing small, intentional practices each day, Michelle’s confidence soared. She has built a deep sense of trust with her administrative team, rediscovered joy in her work, and has become a more present wife and mom.
